The extremely economical Mercedes Benz OM936 engine of 260 kW/354 hp with 7.7 l volume capacity, 2-stage turbocharging, 1,400 Nm max. torque at 1,200 rpm (exhaust gas category 4 Final with AdBlue and SCR-Cat) is integrated in the most efficient drive concept. It is automatically driven at reduced engine rpm during loading, while at the same time preserving enough power for extreme conditions.
Efficient hydraulics enables rotational speed reduction
The hydraulic system with an improved gear/revolution transmission provides efficient power transfer whilst combining high throughput with low consumption at a steady loading of 1,200 rpm. Powerful load-sensing hydraulics ensures the highest possible hydraulic fluid capacity and a prompt response of the entire operating hydraulics even at idling speed.
Optimal balance with counterweight arm
The counterweight arm, specially developed by the company’s founder Hermann Paintner, is made of special 700 fine grain steel and contributes to the impressive performance of the Maus during loading whilst maintaining utmost machine stability. The counterweight arm is up to 9 m long and 4 m high and can be swung out together with the fuel tank, which serves as a counterweight to the loader, thus ensuring optimal balancing of the machine even at more than 15 m overloading width. The optional scale is integrated in the overloading conveyor articulation part and provides even better results. All the overloading conveyor side walls are made of high-strength PU plates and which can be turned in four directions.
Machine construction in perfection
The main frame consists of laser-welded and angled profile tubes of 700 fine grained steel and offers very high stability. All components are functional, transparent and maintenance-friendly. The various detailed solutions, e.g. the automatic folding/unfolding mechanism, video-system at the terminal with 2 cameras in series (4 cameras optionally), automatic stone protection, reversible and swung up cooling fan, fuel filter monitoring etc. all contribute to the highest possible performance at lowest maintenance needs. Electronic data recording, fuel consumption gauging, air-conditioning, park heating, rear view camera and central lubricating system are part of very comprehensive standard equipment of the Maus 5. Optionally available are systems for beet logistics, all of which can be integrated directly into the main terminal without auxiliary terminals (integrated application management). The automatically controlled from sensors water spray system provides significant assistance in difficult loading conditions.

Engine & Drive
Technology with maximal performance – minimal fuel consumption
The extremely economical Mercedes Benz engine of 240 kW / 326 HP (OM 926, 7.2 l CC) with integrated AdBlue and SCR-Cat is automatically driven at reduced revolutions even during loading whilst at the same time preserving enough power for extreme conditions. In contrast to the previous model it is possible to increase the throughput at reduced fuel consumption. Due to the increased throughput the cleaning capacity is also improved to achieve optimal cleaning results.
Corresponding to the increased throughput the cleaning area has been extended to achieve an optimum cleaning result. A pump distributor with a load-switching multiple disc clutch ensures reliable cold-start and minimized fuel consumption for all drives.
The new hydraulics with new transmission technology in the pump distributor combines high throughput at lowest consumption even with running at 1,200 rpm. An extremely efficient load-sensing-hydraulic system guarantees the highest oil efficiency for maximum performance with quick responsive operation even at low engine revs. The cooling system with hydrostatically controlled and automatically reversing fan is contamination protected.
Efficient hydraulic system
The new hydraulic system with an optimal gear / revolution transmission provides efficient power whilst combining high throughput with low consumption at a steady loading speed of 1,200 1/min. Powerful load-sensing hydraulics ensure highest possible oil utilization and a swift response from the entire operating system even when idling.
GIS Data Port
Perfect communication between Maus and external systems
The optional GIS-data port allows the Maus to communicate easily with external systems. Through a specific data port the operator can check and work on operation and contract data from the terminal. At the same time additional contract information can be imported into the data bank of the machine.
The GIS data port allows for the combination of the GIS-system with satellite images to coordinate the sugar beet harvest.
Major advantages for the sugar campaign management with the GIS-System:
- Visual illustration of the current status of the harvest or loading
- Visual illustartion of the already harvested or loaded fields
- Position of the clamp location
- Location of the harvester and Maus through an integrated GPS-locator
- Optimizing of daily and/ or campaign routes
- Continuous information flow from the headquarter (farm or company office) all the way to the machines onboard computer
- Transfer of the daily routes via GPRS and/ or UMTS
- Easy route changes with automated updates in all connected machines following the changes
Everyone involved with the sugar logistics – director of operations, harvester driver, Maus driver, truck driver – have access to the same information and are connected with each other
Practical use of the operation control and campaign management on an example of "MR logistics" and "mobGis"
The logistics system is divided into the central system called "MR logistics" and mobile system called "mobGIS". The central system "MR logistics" is responsible for record and administration of the field piece, part, machines, driver data, route planning for individual vehicles, transfer of ordered route to the relevant harvester or loader and administration of the transmitted evaluation information of the completed harvester and loader orders.
At first, one should create the fields in the GIS and database. One can also import these data if they are provided by an agricultural institution of the country. For the practical application orthophotos are also helpful. The next step is to plan the route on an external PC of operational director for each mobile vehicle.
The fields are selected in the same order as they were harvested. The route can be visualized in geography and the selected fields are indicated by the line connections.
Route planning on the PC of operational director
When the route is already planned, one should send these routes to the mobile units (harvester, loader or truck). Then these data are saved at the Internet Server and are available for the selected mobile units. Before the beginning of the work all the units receive their actual day routes, the onboard computers show the actual position and relevant field in color.
Clicking on the colored part of the field on the onboard computer, the driver passes the information of sugar beet producer to the order management in the terminal of euro-Tigers V8. When the field is ready, the driver of harvester ends the order at the terminal of the euro-Tiger V8. Then, the order data are sent to the onboard computer of the euro-Tiger V8. The onboard computer sends the data to the Internet server. Every 20 seconds the server compares these data with all relevant units, such as loaders, harvesters and transport vehicles.
After the order finished (the field is ready) all the received data (driver, time of every piece, total time, position of the clamp, etc.) are transferred from the onboard computer to the center. According to these data the routes for loaders and transport vehicles will be planned. The driver of loader takes a glance at the actual position of the harvester and sugar beet clamp. The use of air photos provides better efficiency and helps to avoid unnecessary detours.
GIS-Data Port and RABS-System
The driver of euro-Maus 4 can see on the onboard computer the cultivated parts and position of clamps. When you click on the clamp, the producer data is transferred from laptop to the RABS-System in the terminal of euro-Maus 4.
Onboard computer at ROPA euro-Maus 4 with mobGis software
Each time you send the electronic delivery notes to the truck transponder, all the total indications are transferred from the terminal to the GIS-system. Thus, collection of related field parts data becomes possible during the beet loading. If an order is completed and the next order is started, all the members can see that the beet is already sent.
Everyone involved with the sugar logistics – director of operations, harvester driver, Maus driver, truck driver – have access to the same information and are connected with each other.
Pick Up
10.2m wide pick up system - individually adjusted cleaning intensity
Double cleaning path in the pick up - individually adjusted cleaning distance
The new and extremely robust pick up system from ROPA is the widest version available on the market. The patented pick up system is designed so that the length and intensity of the cleaning path can be variably set from the cabin as necessary. In contrast to earlier systems 50 percent more beet can be stored in an average-sized clamp - a great advantage on larger fields or in heavy frost.
A total of 18 cleaning rollers (all with hard welded coating) ensure a gentle and efficient soil and weed separation whilst at the same time allowing more space underneath.
Separate drives for 3 groups of rollers with indiviual setting of revolutions and automatic reversing for stone protection.
- Maximized efficiency of the pick up system – significantly less wear and tear
The annual operating capability of loaders is constantly increasing. Many machines operate in 24 hours shifts, and time for maintenance and parts replaciement is limited and expensive. ROPA has once again improved the heavy duty parts by developing this new pick upsystem and uses extra durable components.
Road Drive
Minimal time for preparation – fast set up and setting off
For road transport the complete Maus folds in automatically to a road width of 3 m and a total length of only 14.97m with just one operating element in the cabin! The wheel base of 5.5 m combined with two hydraulically sprung additional axles guarantees safe handling of the approx. 31 t loader while maintaining the best driving comfort even at an increased speed (optional 40 km/h). Road transport is as economical in fuel consumption as it is in operational mode even at reduced engine speeds.
Minimal cleaning required before changeover, with very little area of possible soil build up no soil accumulation behind the rear axle.
Weighing Scale
Weighing is more efficient than guessing – accuracy makes the difference!
ROPA offers and optional integrated weighing scale for the Maus 5. The scale offers many advantages at once: Transport vehicles can be loaded to the last pound to allow optimal and most efficient loading by maximizing transport all available capabilities.
- Overloading of transport vehicles which could create problems for driver and owner can be effectively avoid.
- Beets from many different clamps and owners can be loaded onto the same truck.Despite many beets from different owners on the truck the scale allows for a good adjustment to accommodate very owner based upon their amount of beets.
- In order to allow easy handling the optional scale is completely integrated into the color terminal of the Maus 5. By integrating the scale right away into the system no additional monitor is necessary –> no line of sight obstruction!
- To allow for a paper less data transfer the ROPA Transportation System (RABS-Transponder) easily transfers data via a integrated data port.
Fully automatic weighing system (optional)
Weighing elements, rpm sensor, angle sensor and sclases computer are integrated in the overloader articulation part.
Function of the scales:
Weighing scales are mounted on both sides of the elevator frame (2) which measures the current weight of the loading elevator. By using a grade sensor (3) on the computer processor of the scale the system calculates the current grade percentage. The speed of the belt is measured by using a speed sensor (1) on the oil motor. By using all three components (weight, elevator grade and speed) the system can calculate the exact weight of the beets.
The fully integrated weighing scale can be refitted to all types of Maus 5. The refitting of an additional weighing scale is possible on all ROPA machines but and additional monitor/ terminal inside the cabin is required.
